Protecting Reefer & Cold-Chain Loads from Cargo Theft

Cold-chain freight carries a risk ordinary cargo doesn't: a broken seal isn't just a theft, it's a temperature excursion. Open the doors on a reefer load of frozen protein or pharmaceuticals and the whole load can be condemned — a total loss even if nothing is physically carried off.

Why reefers are targeted

Refrigerated loads are high-value and time-sensitive, and they often sit at rest — at yards, rail ramps, and drop lots — where they're most exposed. In fact, the majority of cargo theft happens while equipment is idle, and standard external locks and seals give thieves the same visible target they do on any container.

What cold-chain security needs

Two things at once: keep the doors shut against theft, and keep the seal intact to preserve the temperature chain. That argues for a lock with no external hardware to attack, that holds the doors closed under load, and that keeps working in the cold rather than failing in it.

How VaultX fits

VaultX locks reefer container and trailer doors from the inside and is engineered to operate in cold-chain conditions. There's no external lock to cut, the doors stay sealed even under attack, it protects the load whether moving or parked, and the same unit is reused load after load — protecting both the cargo and the cold chain that makes it valuable.
